EPCOT’s third seasonal festival is the Festival of the Future. This festival focuses on what companies and countries are bringing to make the world a better place. Cool futuristic exhibits with many different kinds of merchandise are available.
Mission Space (2018)
Refurbishment
This ride has been troubled from the beginning. Heavy refurbishment of the ride bringing many different changes. New Cabins provided more open space so people feel less claustrophobic. New different scenarios are added to the ride to add variety to the ride. The pre and post shows are updated to give a more futuristic scenario.

TRON: The Grid (2020)
Overview:
TRON: The Grid is a family dark coaster that combines traditional coaster elements with new features such as LIM launches, turntables, track switches, elevators and reversing elements. It also includes dark ride elements such as LED Lighting, rotating vehicles, screens, special effects and hydraulic track movement.
Queue:
Guests enter Flynn’s Arcade and wander through the queue surrounded by 80’s arcade games with classic 80’s music in the playing background. Finally guests approach the TRON game which is pushed to the side allowing access into Flynn’s laboratory. Here guests approach the Fastpass+ merge area and are grouped together to enter one of the 2 pre-show rooms.
Pre-Show
Guests enter a room that looks like an advanced server room with a large flat screen TV at one end. When the show starts Sam Flynn and Quorra explain the Grid and how it was Sam’s father Kevin Flynn’s dream to share it with the rest of mankind. Together Sam and Quorra explain that they created a way with a new “Light Buggy” for large groups of people to travel together and tour the grid safely thereby completing Kevin Flynn’s dream. They then start a safety program that explains the safety spiel of the ride. The precook doors then open to expose the final line and the loading docks for the ride.
Ride Experience
Load
Guest load into 4 rows of 4 on one of 2 different loading platforms. Each guest then must then individually pull down the lap bar harness. The car then moves forward to the safety checkpoint.
Scene 1
After the safety checkpoint the car then moves into the next room. The doors say “Danger! Lasers) The car comes to a stop in the middle of the room staring straight at the laser digitizer as the doors close behind them. Quorra’s Voice then comes over the speakers and says that they are going to digitized now and starts counting down. On zero all the lights in the room flash and go to complete darkness. During the darkness the walls infront of and to the sides as will as the laser assembly retract quickly. A track switch then quickly brings in the forward track. This all happens extremely fast after the flash (about 2 seconds). After this is complete the froward track starts to light up with less showing the path ahead and the car slowly starts to move forward as the guest enter the digital world.
Scene 2
The Light Buggy slowly starts moving through the streets of the grid show the guests great view. Then suddenly the car stops as reprogramed orange troops swarm out of nowhere and surround the buggy. CLU then suddenly appears on screen infront of the car. This CLU however has physical damage to his program. He exclaims triumphantly that he now has a way to travel to the real world with this light buggy. He then tells the other programs to seize the guests. The Buggy then suddenly accelerates backward.
Scene 3
As the buggy accelerates backward the car swings around so the guests are now facing forward. Sam and Quorra come over the radio and tell the guest that the are working on getting them a portal back to the real world.
Scene 4
The car then comes to a stop again and the cars turn to the side as more reprogramed troops and Recognizers fly in surrounding the Light Buggy. CLU starts claiming victory when suddenly Tron appears out of nowhere and starts fighting CLU. Troy then yell to the guest to get out of there but then during the fight one of the Recognizers crashes next to the Light Buggy and derezzing the ground. The Coaster Track leans forward with air blowning at the guests to simulate falling. Quorra then activates the light buggies repulsers at the last second allowing the buggy to land softly on the floor below. The buggy then move quickly forward as the car turns to face forward once more.
Scene 5
As the car goes around the next corner they come face to face with a large legion of reprogramed troops. Quorra come over the radio once more and tells the guest to go right. A turntable the turns the car right and it move forward about 20 feet. The doors then close behind the buggy.
Scene 6
The Track then starts to move upwards slowly on an elevator and comes out onto the Gaming Grid. An overhead computerized voice then says “Grid is Live, Commence Light Cycle Battle”. On either side of the car is an orange light cycle. The car then shoots forward with a LIM launch at almost 40 mph and enters the high speed portion of the attraction.
Scene 7
This is the high speed portion of the attraction which is mostly in the dark but allows guests to see other light cycles and some parts of the track like the helix from the movie. The sequence last about 40 seconds before Quorra comes over the radio again saying the found them a portal. The Car then head straight for a bright light. As they head for the portal they can see CLU on a light cycle next to them.
Scene 8
The car then enters the portal which is a white tunnel and as they enter they here CLU cry out in fury as he crashes and gets derezzed. The on ride photo is taken as the car enter the portal. The car then enters the lab again where they see Sam and Quorra standing the control booth. The car turns towards the booth as Sam and Quorra congratulate and thank the guests on a job well done defeating CLU. They then say they hope they will come back and see the Grid again for a real tour next time. The car then turn straight again and head toward the unloading dock.
Unload
The cars go to one of 2 different unloading docks to allow guest to get off the ride.
Ride Exit
Guest exit out of Flynn’s Arcade where they can play real vintage arcade games and view their ride photos. Outside the arcade exit is the ElecTRONica dance party area.

Illuminations: World United (2021)
Illuminations: World United is a new version of EPCOT’s fireworks show replacing Refections of Earth that focuses on the cooperation of everyone in the world and what humanity can achieve when we work together. Effects that happen during the show include. Lasers, water screens, flame throwers, water fountains, fog effects and small and large pyro. The refurbished and updated globe and inferno barges make a triumphant return for World United.
Future World Refurb (2026)
Future world and most of its pavilions will be refurbished to the the land a new modern and cleaner appearance. The theme will be the harmony of man and nature. Lots of white, silver and neutral colors will be used. Also there will be an abundance of trees, greenery and water throughout the land.
The Universal Union (2030)
Hosted by the long-fabled "Sage of Time", this new parade rolls around World Showcase to triumph the spirit of humankind. The wise old Sage narrates the entire parade, which features traditional music, dancing and delegates from each country represented in Epcot. For example, you'll see traditional Aztec tribal scenes immediately preceding a classic mariachi band, eventually leading to a lively rendition of "Scotland the Brave". It all comes together with the finale as The Sage rides in a hot air balloon (shaped like the Earth) along with representatives from each previously mentioned nation. The parade is accompanied by a Hanz Zimmer soundtrack.
